Maruti Omni

Maruti Omni
The Maruti Omni is a minivan manufactured by Indian auto major Maruti Suzuki. The first version of Maruti Omni had 796 cc engine, same as the Maruti 800 city car.

This was the second vehicle to be launched by Maruti, one year after the 800, in 1984.
The Omni could be divided into two categories: the family version and the cargo version. The newer family version has two extra seats directly behind the front seating and facing away towards the rear of the van making it an eight seater. Older versions were modified by individual owners to add additional capacity this way. The cargo version does not consist of back seats. Both versions have sliding back doors and hatchbacks.
The Omni is also unique in a way that it uses a front mid engine rear wheel drive layout, as it helps in maximizing cabin and cargo space and providing maximum traction.
Design and specifications:
* Omni (E), released in 1996, 796 cc engine, 8 seater capacity vehicle
* Omni XL - 1999, same engine, modified with a higher roof.
* Omni Cargo LPG - 2004, created to answer the growing popularity of this car being used as an inter-city cargo vehicle.[1]
* Omni LPG - 2003, same 796 cc engine, added with a factory fitted LPG Kit. This makes it the most economic 4 wheeler in India, as far as the driving costs are concerned.
* Omni Ambulance - A Modified E version into an ambulance vehicle. This is the most common type of ambulances found in Indian cities.

Maruti Zen

The Maruti Zen is a Maruti Suzuki product. Its a 5 door hatchback popular across the globe. The word Zen Stands for Zero Engine Noise. Zen is a Japanese word , derived from a Sanskrit word "Dhyana" which means meditation.
The Maruti Zen was first launched in 1993 in India. It was known as a first premium compact car and has been doing good
For 13 years till the Company decided to stop its production for a while and re-launched it as Zen Estilo, means stylish (Spanish)
It was presumed that the production took a backseat to promote Alto, Another product of Maruti Suzuki.
However the sale of Zen is on decline since the market has become more intense and many players are entering into Indian Arena. Maruti Suzuki itself has launched model in various classes like Swift, SX4 to name a few.
But Estilo is still finding its way into the market with all new looks and bound to survive to repeat the historical value of the name associated with it which is ‘Zen’

The Maruti Gypsy is a four wheel drive SUV.It is produced in India, it is also available in Chile and Kenya and very popular there too. In Europe, it is most often found in Malta and Hungary. is available with 4 seats and a good size trunk. In India Maruti Gypsy is available in three variants, "soft top", "hard top” and as an "ambulance car".
In India, it is largely used by the police and defense forces. As a matter of fact, the MG-413 model is now the mainstay of the Indian Army. In civilian use also, the Gypsy is a popular choice as a low-cost SUV.
In India, market for used Maruti Gypsy is on rise, since it is available only on demand. One has to make an full advance payment and waiting time is minimum 3 months. The price tag is as low as 5 lakh for entry model, and this has been the prime reason for the love this Vehicle has been generating for years.Lookwise and performance wise its on par, and most owners in India go for some kind of modification to enhance its look as a SUV.It more famous for its performance Off the road, and considered best on terrain and desert. It has good looks but there are no plush interiors, and comfort level is bit low. Its more of a utility based vehicle than a luxury. There are no power windows or Power steering. But there is no deviation from the affection it has created among its fans and Maruti Gypsy is developing into a very popular vehicle in its category.

Maruti Suzuki SX4

I was going through a review related to Maruti SX4, it was more like a drivers biography and his experiences with that car. In his article he has described that how he survived from near death instances. He blamed the car for the poor design and visibility and he termed the car as a death trap, sounds interesting but i am not convinced. According to him it happened thrice with him while he was driving that particular car. He Blamed the car for the accidents but I blame his driving skills for that. As a matter of fact Suzuki SX4 is very well designed car and termed a futuristic design by many critics. I believe SX4 has a very unique design,only the wheels size may look oversized to few but rest of the car is very well balanced and the bigger wheels provides it a better balance while driving. SX4 is powered by 1586cc, 4 cylinder petrol engine with develops maximum power 102bhp at 5500rpm with maximum torque of 154Nm at 4200rpm. It takes a around 12 seconds to 100kph.

Developed by Suzuki and Fiat, it was launched in 2006 in European market as a hatchback model. In 2007 It was introduced and released in Japan, India and a few Eastern European markets. Since its launch in India Suzuki SX4 has been doing extremely well.

Well lets get back to the safety aspect of the car.On safety front SX4 is very well equipped with the top-end ZXi variant having adjustable tilt steering, tubeless tires, alloys, Dual airbags, ABS, Disc brakes and automatic climate control system. Fuel Economy is something where it lacks a bit. It returns fuel economy of around 9.3kpl in the city and 14.5kpl on the highway which is very less if we compare it to the Honda City. But Overall SX4 is a great car, is very well equipped, is good looking and fun to drive.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited is a publicly listed automaker in India. It is a leading four-wheeler automobile manufacturer in South Asia. Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan holds a majority stake in the company. It was the first company in India to mass-produce and sell more than a million cars. It is largely credited for having brought in an automobile revolution to India. It is the market leader in India. On 17 September 2007, Maruti Udyog was renamed to Maruti Suzuki India Limited.

Maruti Suzuki is one of India's leading automobile manufacturers and the market leader in the car segment, both in terms of volume of vehicles sold and revenue earned. Until recently, 18.28% of the company was owned by the Indian government, and 54.2% by Suzuki of Japan. The Indian government held an initial public offering of 25% of the company in June 2003. As of May 10, 2007, Govt. of India sold its complete share to Indian financial institutions. With this, Govt. of India no longer has stake in Maruti Udyog.Suzuki Motor Corporation, Japan, owns 54.2 per cent of Maruti. The rest is owned by the public and financial institutions. It is listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange in India.

Maruti Udyog Limited (MUL) was established in February 1981, though the actual production commenced in 1983 with the Maruti 800. Hindustan Motor's Ambassador and Premier Padmini were were the only copetitor back then.
Through 2004, Maruti has produced over 5 Million vehicles. Marutis are sold in India and various several other countries, depending upon export orders.
The company annually exports more than 50,000 cars and has an extremely large domestic market in India selling over 730,000 cars annually. Maruti 800, till 2004, was the India's largest selling compact car ever since it was launched in 1983. More than a million units of this car have been sold worldwide so far. Currently, Maruti Alto tops the sales charts.

Maruti Suzuki India Limited, a subsidiary of Suzuki Motor Corporation of Japan, has been the leader of the Indian car market for over two decades.
During 2007-08, Maruti Suzuki sold 764,842 cars, of which 53,024 were exported. In all, over six million Maruti cars are on Indian roads since the first car was rolled out on December 14, 1983.

Maruti Suzuki offers 12 models, Maruti 800, Omni, Alto, Versa, Gypsy, A Star, Wagon R, Zen Estilo, Swift, Swift Dzire, SX4, Grand Vitara. Swift, Swift dzire, A star and SX4 are maufactured in Manesar, Grand Vitara is imported from Japan as a completely built unit (CBU), remaining all models are manufactured in Maruti Suzuki's Gurgaon Plant.

Pressure started mounting on Indira and Sanjay Gandhi to share the details of the progress on the Maruti Project. Since country's resources were made available by mother to her son's pet project. A delegation of Indian technocrats was assigned to hunt a collaborator for the project. Initial rounds of discussion were held with the giants of the automobile industry in Japan including Toyota, Nissan and Honda. Suzuki Motor Corporation was at that time a small player in the four wheeler automobile sector and had major share in the two wheeler segment. Suzuki's bid was considered negligible.

In the initial rounds of discussion the giants had their bosses present and in the later rounds related to the technical discussions executives of these automobile giants were present. Osamu Suzuki, Chairman and CEO of the company ensured that he was present in all the rounds of discussion. Osamu in an article writes that it subtly massaged their (Indian delegation) egos and also convinced them about the sincerity of Suzuki's bid. In the initial days Suzuki took all steps to ensure the government about its sincerity on the project. Suzuki in return received a lot of help from the government in such matters as import clearances for manufacturing equipment (against the wishes of the Indian machine tool industry then and its own socialistic ideology), land purchase at government prices for setting up the factory Gurgaon and reduced or removal of excise tariffs. This helped Suzuki conscientiously nurse Maruti through its infancy to become one of its flagship ventures.

Upcoming models.

A-Star, dubbed the global India car and developed by Maruti Suzuki Ltd's research and development (R&D) team in Gurgaon near Delhi, is sleek, smart and fun to drive. Designed by Saurabh Singh and Rajesh Kumar Gogu of Maruti Suzuki India, the fivedoor hatchback with a 1,000 cc petrol engine has been designed keeping the European market in mind. Maruti Suzuki India hopes to commence production of A-Star by October 2008, said the managing director of Suzuki Motor Corporation, Shinzo Nakanishi. The car would be manufactured from the company's Manesar facility in Haryana, he said. By 2010, Suzuki plans to export 100,000 units of the new model to Europe. "Maruti's manufacturing capability has reached a level where Suzuki wants to make small cars for Europe exclusively in India," he said. A-Star will be an "A-Segment" car as per the European nomenclature (considered the A-2 segment in India) and Euro-V compliant with a 1.0-litre aluminium petrol engine. Maruti enjoyed a 50 percent market share in the Indian auto market, so MSIL would launch one new model in India every year to consolidate its market position. The A-Star is considered to be one of the most ambitious projects of Maruti Suzuki India. In fact, the concept car is a first for Maruti Suzuki India's R&D team. The company has entered into an agreement with Nissan to sell A-Star under the latter's brand name in the US market,. Although A-Star attracted most eyeballs and mind space Wednesday at the Expo, Nakanishi was keen to see the Rs.100,000 car of his rival. He, however, ruled out a price cut for Maruti 800 and dismissed rumours of Maruti's foray into the Rs.100,000 segment. Suzuki first unveiled the Kizashi concept car at the Frankfurt Motor Show in November. It is unclear whether Kizashi will be produced or remain on Suzuki's drawing board.
